Festejo! A Celebration of Afro-Peruvian Music and Dance - Duration: 45 minutes
Join Grupo Romp Cajón in a music and dance celebration of Afro-Peruvian culture! Peru has a rich, unique history and tradition of African-diasporic culture that has influenced every aspect of life in Peru. This interactive program will include live performances of traditional music and dance, including Peruvian tap-dancing. Audience members will have the opportunity to play Afro-Peruvian percussion instruments, singsongs, and learn dance steps. Join Rompe Cajón in exploring the African roots of Peruvian culture, gain an appreciation of its similarities and differences with other Afro-Latin traditions, and have fun!
Afro-Perú, Now and Forever: An Interactive Educational Workshop - Duration: 60 minutes
Afro-Peruvian culture is alive and thriving in Peru and around the world. Let Grupo Romp Cajón take you on an adventure, exploring the complex roots of Afro-Peruvian music and dance. In this interactive program, audiences will not only listen to and watch the band and dancers perform authentic representations, but will also participate! Audience members will have the opportunity to play percussion instruments, sing songs, and learn dance steps.
Viva Afro-Perú! A Short Exposition - Duration: 20 minutes
This explosive performance provides a whirlwind revue of various genres of Afro-Peruvian music, including festejo, landó, and the zamacueca. Audiences won't be able to resist getting up and dancing!
Technical REQUIREMENTS and fee

If performing outdoors, ample protection from the elements (e.g. sun, rain, wind). Our instruments and equipment are sensitive to heat and humidity.

Grupo Rompe Cajón can provide audio equipment at additional cost, or can rely on the venue’s equipment. If the venue has equipment, consult with us to determine specific audio requirements
Consult with Grupo Rompe Cajón on the performance fee. Primary factors that influence the fee are duration, complexity of the performance and availability of audio equipment.

Grupo Rompe Cajón has played in numerous venues in the across the East Coast. Besides performing in local restaurants and musical venues, example performances include:
Montgomery County Public Schools. Rompe Cajón has performed in various schools in Montgomery County, MD and other school districts in the Washington, D.C. area. We have performed as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, multicultural festivals, and other celebrations. Our performances have focused on teaching culture and the historical roots of Afro-Peruvian music and dance.
Fiesta DC. The largest annual Hispanic Heritage Month festival in the DC metropolitan area, Fiesta DC attracts thousands of members of the public, along with dignitaries, local and international performers, and street vendors, representing every Latin American country.
Wheaton Family Theater Series. Sponsored by Montgomery County, MD, this series brings performing arts to families and children in the area of Wheaton, Maryland.
Baltimore by Baltimore. Baltimore by Baltimore (BxB) is a music and makers festival series hosted every first Saturday of the month, May – October 2022, at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater, from Noon to 8 p.m. Join us in a free celebration of the music, makers, and munchies that make Baltimore truly special at the gem of the city, the Inner Harbor Waterfront.
Creative Alliance. The Creative Alliance builds communities by bringing together artists and audiences from diverse backgrounds to experience spectacular arts and education programs and engage in the creative process. Rompe Cajón has performed at Hispanic arts festivals organized by Creative Alliance.
Washington Folk Festival. The Washington Folk Festival is the oldest folk festival in the DC area, bringing together performers in a range of folk traditions. Rompe Cajón has been a regular performer at this festival.
Gala Theater. Rompe Cajón has been a performer at Gala Theater's annual Dia de los Reyes / Three Kings Day, a celebration of the Hispanic tradition every January.
